Bipolar I, Current Manic State and Remarkable Hypersexuality

The female patient, Jessica, is in a manic state with high physical energy and exhibiting hypersexual behavior.  The interview begins shortly after Jessica was brought in by her partner after inappropriate behavior during a social gathering.  Some of the symptoms for Bipolar I in manic state demonstrated by Jessica include increased energy over several weeks and lack of need for sleep over the last 3 days.  Recently, Jessica has expressed a desire to go to night clubs so she can meet new people.  During the admission intake, the nurse learns that Jessica has stopped her medications because they make her too “normal,” which she describes as “boring.”  Last night Jessica and her boyfriend went to a party and Jessica tried to seduce several people.  At one point in the evening, Jessica forcibly kissed a stranger.  Throughout the interview, Jessica continues to be sexually inappropriate and tells the female nurse: “I believe that you are attracted to me, go ahead, kiss me!”
