3. Expand the patient’s view of other causes and responsible parties.
Example:
Patient belief: “It’s my fault I was assaulted because I was being too nice.”
Socratic lines of questioning:
- “Are nice people to blame for the bad things that happen to them?”
- “When someone commits a crime against someone else, who do you typically believe is responsible?”
- “Who exactly perpetrated a crime against who in this case?
