2. Ask numerous questions to identify what information they had at the time the trauma occurred, or to identify all the reasons their behavior made sense at the time.

Example:

Patient belief: “I should have known they would hurt me”.

Socratic lines of questioning: 

  • “What did you know about the person at the time? What information did you have that they were dangerous?”
  • “Did you have any information ahead of time that the trauma would happen?”
